Atmosphere

The atmosphere is pretty cool. The funky Hard Rock Cafe vibe makes it feel like you’re in the 60’s and the cool pictures on the wall tell the story of the pie van which  became an icon- good for creating conversation while you eat!

Service

There wasn’t much service as we ordered our food and paid at the counter then took our food to a bar table on the side of the cafe.

Food is served on paper plates with a serviette, so staff don’t have to wash up and the staff simply served us our pies and processed payments through the registers.

Food

The menu is pretty cool and there is the option to customise your pie with various toppings such as peas and gravy.

I decided to try Harry’s signature Tiger Pie with mashed potato, mushy peas and gravy on a beef pie.

The pie, although it would be very difficult to eat had I not been seated at a bar table, was delicious. There were plenty of big chunks of beef, the meat was peppery and saucy, and the mash was creamy and smooth. The mush peas and gravy added some sweetness (peas) and saltiness (gravy) and topped the dish off well.

Probably one of the best pies I have ever had. It’s easy to see why Harry’s is so popular. I think this is one of Sydney’s tourist attractions and would be a great place to welcome tourists to the national cuisine – a meat pie!

MC went for the hotdog which was…well a simple hotdog!

5

It was also good to see that Harry’s upholds a high standard of food quality and uses organic produce!

6

Cost

The pies were about $4.50-$7.00 each. Hotdogs were about $5.00.

Rating:

Overall I would rate my experience (out of 10):

  • Service- 3 (not much service needed as it is sort of takeaway)
  • Food- 7.75
  • Ambience- 7
  • Value – 7.75
