I’ve walked past this little store countless times over the past year, but I finally got to try it yesterday.
We were greeted by a very friendly waiter who brought us menus and took our drink orders (pepsi max in cute glass bottles!). Service was good as the waiter was friendly and made us feel comfortable and welcome.
The restaurant was pretty quiet but the decor was interesting and suitable for the restaurant, if a little outdated. I’m sure on a Friday night this place would attract quite a few patrons from the nearby Golden Sheaf.
Although it is the Double Bay Schnitzel house, we weren’t really feeling schnitzel-y at the time so I ordered salt and pepper squid with chips and MC ordered the grilled barramundi with potato rosti and salad. Both dishes came out within about 10 minutes.
I really enjoyed the salt and pepper squid but would have liked a small side salad to go with it. The chips were delicious, crunchy and well-cooked and there was plenty of calamari. For a “light lunch” dish, this was a HUGE serving and I struggled to finish it (I didn’t!).
MC’s barramundi and salad had a large portion size too. The salad was a good accompaniment for the (massive) grilled fish and the rosti was nice too, although a little soggy.
Overall a nice meal. I hope to try the schnitzel next time.
Great value for under $20 each!
