Although my friends and I had planned to have sushi for dinner, the restaurant we intended to eat at was busy and so, frustrated, we left and decided to try this Japanese ramen place.

Don’t let the food court styled look of Ichi-ban Boshi put you off. Service here is great and the food must be good since the line to get in just grew longer and longer as the night went on. I’d advise you to get there early in order to get a table soon or you’ll be waiting quite a while (especially after work).

We all ordered iced teas which were light and refreshing and came with an “add your own” sugar syrup. We shared a bowl of edamame beans which were hot, crunchy and salty. The first time I tried edamame beans I thought you could eat the skin. I ended up with a mouthful of hairy beans! Needless to say, I didn’t enjoy it so make sure you only bite the little peas out and don’t eat the whole bean!

I ordered the Karaage Ramen which was basically fried chicken with Maggi style noodles in a broth. It was hard to eat with just the spoon and chopsticks but I managed to eat about half of it. It was salty and tasted great. The flavour was delicious but I would have preferred smaller pieces of chicken and a fork for the noodles! My friend ordered the Tempura Prawn Udon and asked for the prawn on the side. It looked delicious and the prawns also looked crunchy and were hot. She said she really enjoyed it, and considering that she has had ramen before, I’ll believer her 😉 Another friend ordered the Chicken Miso Soup which had some sliced chicken and noodles with a corn coloured broth and topped with bean sprouts and shallots.

Some of the other great dishes at Ichi-ban Boshi include:

Braised Beef Ramen

20140121_182715

Wonton Noodle Soup

20140121_182846

Fried Chicken and Egg with Rice

20140121_182210

Chicken Karaage with Rice

Overall everyone seemed to enjoy the food and we all left with full stomachs!

Cost:

The meal only cost us about $17.00 each.

Rating:

Overall I would rate my dining experience (out of 10):

  • Service- 7
  • Food- 5
  • Ambience- 5
  • Value – 8
