Simple Chocolate & Orange Mousse (makes 4)

This easy choc orange mousse recipe is perfect for when unexpected guests come over and you need a speedy dessert. Everyone has eggs, milk and sugar at home, and most people (at least the normal ones…:p) have chocolate at home most days.


  • 200g
    belgian chocolate
  • 3 eggs whites, 3 egg yolks
  • 2 Tbs caster sugar
  • Rind of half an orange
  • 2 Tbs milk

1. Beat eggs whites using an electric mixer until soft peaks form.

2. Add caster sugar and beat until stiff peaks form.

3. Chop or grate the chocolate and melt it over a double boiler.

4. When the chocolate has melted, remove the top bowl from the heat and beat in the 3 egg yolks, then add the milk and stir. 5. Stir in the orange rind. 6. Pour the stiff egg whites over the melted chocolate mixture and fold in. 7. Pour into individual ramekins or martini glasses, and refrigerate for 2-4 hours. 8. My mum loved it and I was also told that it “tastes like jaffas” ! Try it for yourself, you can even vary it with mint for choc mint or leave out the orange for a plain mousse.
